1.No one's suggesting that you say directly "I'm too busy" when your boss walks up and asks you to take on a new project. Instead, it's more helpful to point out to your manager exactly how heavy your current workload is. It's not as clear as just saying "Nope, sorry," but it gets the same message across: you have enough on your plate, and if you add something else, you'll need their help deciding what comes off.(5分)

2.The genetic is out of the bottle. Yet there are clearly some very real issues that need to be resolved. Like any new product entering the food chain, genetically modified foods must be subjected to rigorous testing. In wealthy countries, the debate about biotech is tempered by the fact that we have a rich array of foods to choose from -- and a supply that far exceeds our needs.(5分)

3.He was so big and talented that he could dominate any game just by being on the court. Ming led the Rockets to the team’s first playoff appearance in several years, but his statistical totals were not so impressive. Still, Ming was one of the most popular players in NBA history. The fans loved him, and voted him into the All-Star game eight times.(5分)

4.Most Americans cast cold water on a central premise of many a song or poem, that each person in the universe has only one true love. About seven-in-ten (69%) people do not agree with that notion; only 28% do. Among those who do agree, men (31%) are slightly more likely to do so than women (26%). Young and old, married and unmarried are equally skeptical.(5分)

5.Why do we order with more reckless abandon when we're using our smartphones and laptops? Expert said these barriers to human interaction essentially also act as barriers to shame. If there’s no waiter, there’s no other person to make them feel guilty for making less-sensible choices.(5分)

    1.

Normally a student must attend a certain number of courses in order to graduate, and each courses which he attends gives him a credit which he may count towards a degree.

In many American universities the total work for a degree consists of thirty- six courses, each lasting for one semester. A typical course consists of three classes per week for fifteen weeks. While attending a university a student will probably attend four or five courses during each semester. Normally a student would expect to take four years attending two semesters each year. It is possible to spread the period of work for the degree course, though this is not in fact done as a regular practice.

For every course that he follows a student is given a grade, which is recorded, and the record is available for the student to show to prospective employers. All this is imposes pressure from the strain of work, but in spite of this some students still find time for great activity in student affairs. Elections to positions in student organizations arouse much enthusiasm. The effective work of maintaining discipline is usually performed example by cheating, has to appear before a student court. With the enormous numbers of students, the operation of the system does involve a certain amount of activity. A student who has held one of these positions of authority is much respected and it will be of benefit to him or her in his or her career.

    1.

Should the University Campus be Open to Tourists?

    内容提示:

    1.校园是否应对游客开放,人们看法不同,说明你的观点;

    2.阐述你的理由。

    (15分)

    考生答案:

Nowadays, many well-known university campuses in China have become popular tourist attractions. During holidays, large numbers of tourists can be seen everywhere on campuses.

Should the university campuses be open to tourists? People’s opinions vary from one another. Some think that opening university campuses to tourists can provide the young with a good opportunity to know the university so that they can be encouraged to study harder to realize their dreams. However, others argue that opening university campuses to tourists may ruin both their natural and academic environment.

As far as I’m concerned, university campuses shouldn’t be open to tourists because they are places for study and research. If too many tourists appear on campus, they will destroy the quiet environment for the students to study effectively.
